What is the visibility triangle and what does it work for?

Welcome to today's presentation on the visibility triangle. As drivers, we all know that having a clear view of the road is essential for safe driving. But do you know what the visibility triangle is and why it's important? In this presentation, we'll explore the concept of the visibility triangle and how it can help you stay safe on the road.

The "visibility triangle" is a concept used in the field of road safety and driving. It refers to the area of road that a driver can clearly see while sitting in the driver's seat of a vehicle.

The visibility triangle consists of three points: the two side mirrors and the front windshield. The driver must be able to see everything within this triangle without having to turn their head or body.

It is important for drivers to be aware of their triangle of visibility and adjust their mirrors and seat position accordingly to ensure they have a clear view of the road. This can help prevent accidents caused by blind spots or restricted visibility.

In the design of vehicular entrances, the visibility triangle is used at each corner of the entrance of the property to ensure that there is no obstruction between the visual of the vehicle and the property.

Here we will list some typical guides for the visibility triangle.

1. No structure should be greater than 2.5 feet in height within the triangle. This includes mailboxes, walls ect.

2. The vegetation planted in this triangle shall not exceed two and a half feet (2.5) feet in height within ten (10) feet of the edge of the driveway leading to a public right-of-way.

3. The height of the tree canopy should begin at ten feet high to make the road visible.

  1. At alley or causeway intersections with streets, a triangle with 10-foot sides that extends from the intersection of the sidewalk line, but following the edge of the alley or driveway.

  1. At street intersections, a triangle with 2-5 foot sides that begins at the corner where two curb lines intersect and extends away from this corner intersection, but still following the sidewalk lines. This dimension may vary depending on the city.

In conclusion, the visibility triangle is an essential concept for safe driving. By understanding and optimizing your visibility triangle, you can reduce the risk of accidents and improve your situational awareness on the road. Remember to adjust your mirrors and seat position correctly, and control your visibility triangle at all times. Thank you for seeing us and staying safe along the way!
